To further promote and ensure the sustainability of a climate-resilient water service, the Davao City Water District (DCWD) held the second Water Convention on November 26.

The convention is part of the monthlong celebration of the Water Consciousness Month spearheaded by the DCWD.

Participants from different high schools in the city attended the event.

Representatives of various city government offices involved in the promotion of the advocacy to maintain a climate-resilient water service were also present in the convention.

Jovana Cresta Duhaylungsod, DCWD’s Spokesperson, said in an interview that the convention aims to promote the climate-resilient water service that the city is enjoying.

“Atoang ginapromote ang kaning gina-enjoy sa Davao City karon nga climate-resilient water service which is garbo sa atoang siyudad kung asa masiguro sa Davao City Water District na pwede nato ma-cover kung unsa gyud ‘tong water demand for the present and future generation diri sa atoang siyudad (We are promoting the water-resilient water service that Davao City is currently enjoying which is also a pride of the city given that the Davao City Water District can cover the present and the future water demand of the city),” she said.

The convention highlighted the abundance of water supply in the city as well as the DCWD’s efforts in ensuring that the water that they supply to the Dabawenyos is safe for consumption.

Duhaylungsod also emphasized the important role of the youth’s involvement in ensuring the continuity and sustainability of the city’s development as well as in moving the advocacy forward.

As part of the celebration of the Water Consciousness Month, the DCWD also conducted “barangayan” activities where they discuss and promote the septage management program in partnership with the City Government of Davao.

Members of the youth sector who participated in the convention were also taken on an Eco-Tour to the watershed project sites where they were exposed to the DCWD’s efforts in protecting and rehabilitating the watersheds.

Discussions on water supply, quality, and safety also took place during the convention.

The DCWD assures Dabawenyos that it is exerting all of its best efforts to sustain the improved water service that 95 percent of their service coverage area is enjoying while also improving the remaining 5 percent. CIO
