The City Government of Davao, on Monday, awarded employees who excelled in various games, talent shows, and other contests during the City Government Employees Sportsfest 2024.
The sportsfest, held in observance of Civil Service Month, ran from September to the second week of October.
Davao City Vice Mayor J. Melchor Quitain and City Administrator Atty. Francis H. Layog, during the awarding ceremony, handed out trophies and cash prizes to winners from different city departments.
The City Engineer’s Office emerged as the overall champion, accumulating an impressive 98 points. The Mayor’s Office followed as the first runner-up with 66 points, the Sangguniang Panlungsod emerged as second runner-up with 60 points, and the City Health Office came in third with 32 points.
The events included the Aero Marathon, Mr. and Ms. Sportsfest 2024, P-Pop Dance Challenge, Parade, Chess, Darts, Bowling, Badminton, Larong Pinoy, Volleyball, and Basketball.
Quitain, in an interview with Madayaw, said that the employees’ overwhelming support in the sports and talent competitions is noteworthy.
“Very overwhelming and support sa mga employees kay kini once a year raman gud ni and I am sure mugawas gyud ang talent nila sa dance sa sport sa creativity (The support of the employees is very overwhelming also because this is only once a year they can showcase their talents in dance, sports, and creativity),” he said.
He underscored that the activities help the employee’s well-being and ensure a better workforce in the city.
“Kinahanglan ni kay karon daghan nag issues about sa stress sa kinabuhi, sa mental health physical and mental well-being, gwapo ni nga activity para sa employees to lift their spirits mag bonding to become close to one another and that will result to better work habits gyud (Such events are much needed now because we can face issues about stresses in life that affect mental health, physical and mental well-being. This is a good activity for the employees to lift their spirits, for them to bond with each other and become close to one another, and this will result in better work habits),” he added. CIO
