The Davao City Treatment and Rehabilitation Center for Drug Dependents (DCTRCDD) continues to be “a home of second chances” as it celebrated its 21st anniversary on Tuesday, October 29.

The DCTRCDD is a residential facility in Tugbok. Operated by the City Mayor’s Office, it embodies the Therapeutic Community Modality and offers high-quality treatment programs for drug dependents.

It was established on October 29, 2003, to address social issues and problems, including the negative effects of drug abuse and addiction.

Mayor Sebastian Duterte, in his message delivered by Michelle Maville Schlosser, the centre’s Officer-In-Charge and manager, said that for more than two decades, the center “has been steadfast in its mission to offer comprehensive services and assistance to drug dependents.”

He said the center continues to work toward rehabilitating and reintegrating drug dependents into society.

He added that recovery among drug dependents “is not a journey one walks alone,” but that they need love, encouragement, and guidance from families and the community towards healing.

“Let’s take this situation to reaffirm our collective responsibility to foster recovery prevent relapse and promote reintegration in our society. We hope that we may continue to count on your support, as drug rehabilitation is not the work of the government alone but all of us, working hand in hand towards a drug-free country,” the mayor said.

Schlosser thanked the city government of Davao, Mayor Duterte and former President Rodrigo Roa Duterte for the support and guidance to build the rehabilitation center.

“For everyone’s knowledge, most of our rehabilitation center is actually owned by private practitioners or a national office. However, our rehab center is owned by none other than our own local government unit of Davao City. This was made possible by our beloved former President Rodrigo Roa Duterte. We are extending our thanks to him because 21 years ago, he made this possible,” she said.

“This is a disease that we are battling. This is not a person per se, but we are battling the disease. Having you all here gives us the reason to go on with our goals. To pursue this goal is to be able to reintegrate them into the society that they will be very useful, they will be very productive and God-fearing,” she added.

With the theme “Family in Synergy,” the anniversary started with a mass followed by the program proper. Guests, dignitaries, and parents were enlivened by the performance and talents showcased by DCTRCDD’s staff and residents, and University of Mindanao Interns.

The rehabilitation center has 78 residents.

DCTRCDD also continues its effort to foster recovery and social integration among its residents by offering services such as social, medical, home-life, psychological, psychiatric, spiritual and religious, educational, and sports and recreational services.

It also has programs and interventions, including the therapeutic community modality, anger management, coping skills, stress management, family program, case management program, and psychotherapy. CIO
