The 21st City Council approved on Tuesday an ordinance authorizing partial and total road closures across key city streets for the Kadayawan Festival 2025. The ordinance, formally titled “An Ordinance for The Temporary Partial Road Closure to Vehicular Traffic in Connection with the Upcoming Celebration of Kadayawan Festival 2025,” was approved by the council on suspended rules, after it was sponsored by Councilor Jose Marie Bernardo R. Baluran, chair of the Committee on Transportation and Communication.
Based on the ordinance, there will be a partial road closure of the San Pedro Square, Bolton Street, City Hall Drive, and San Pedro St. from 1 am on August 12 (Tuesday) until 1 am on August 18, 2025.
A partial closure of the Marco Polo Grounds – C.M. Recto corner Roxas Ave., and Bonifacio corner Pelayo St. for stage production and tent installation will also start from 9 pm on August 15 (Friday) until 2 pm on August 17, 2025.
A full road closure covering the parade route (San Pedro Square, Marco Polo Grounds/Roxas Ave., C.M. Recto St., Bonifacio St., Pelayo St., back to San Pedro St.) will be imposed from August 17 (Sunday) at 1 am until midnight on August 18, 2025.
The parade will exit San Pedro St., right turn to C.M. Recto St. towards Bonifacio Rotunda, right turn to Quimpo Boulevard, to Felcris Centrale.
The grand showdown holding area will be the whole of San Pedro St, and a Stop-and-Go will be implemented on all perpendicular streets (Crooked Road, Iñigo St., Pelayo St., and Ilustre St.).
The ordinance cited Section 21(c) of Republic Act 7160 (The Local Government Code of 1991) as its legal basis, which allows temporary closure of roads during fiesta celebrations.
Motorists are advised to plan their alternate routes during the specified closure periods. CIO
