The City Transport and Traffic Management Office (CTTMO) Friday said it will propose to the Sangguniang Panlugsod the closure of Bolton Bridge 1 for repairs.CTTMO Officer-in-Charge Atty. Eduardo Perez told Madayaw Davao that their office’s request is the offshoot of a meeting with contractors who requested for a 10-day closure. This is not the first time the bridge will be closed though.

From April 4 to May 18, 2025, a temporary road closure was implemented in Bolton Bridge 1 due to repair and rehabilitation, which made use of the Bolton Bridge 2 (Northbound) for two-way traffic from and to the downtown.Perez said the CTTMO team initially did not agree with a full closure, which is why only a temporary nightly closure was implemented earlier this year. However, according to the contractor, the previous 10 pm to 5 am schedule was not enough to achieve optimal curing—or the drying and hardening phase—of the repair.“Karon, ang gusto nila, which is na-confirm pud sa tao sa CTTMO, nga i-close nila for 10 days, magsugod July 18 alas 10 sa gabii until July 27, and hopefully maagian na sa July 28 Now, as confirmed by the CTTMO staff, the contractors want to close the road for 10 days—starting 10 pm on July 18 until July 27—and hopefully it will be passable by July 28),” he said.

He added that the CTTMO is planning to reroute trucks but not public utility vehicles (PUVs).“Wala po’y re-routing sa PUV, ang naa lang re-routing ang mga truck. We will put an advisory, in coordination with the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) (There will be no rerouting for PUVs, only for trucks. We will issue advisories in coordination with the DPWH),” he said.Perez said that, just like in April and May 2025, only Bolton Bridge 1 (Southbound) will be closed starting at 10 pm on July 18.

Meanwhile, Bridge 2 will remain open for two-way traffic for PUVs and private vehicles—excluding large trucks.“Mag-deploy mi’g personnel diha, in coordination with the DPWH, to check truck nga muagi diha. Kami, we will advise and coordinate with stakeholders. Hopefully, pag ma-approve siya sa City Council, mag-info dissemination na dayon. You will know once final na. In our office, we agree with the date—dili kaayo layo, dili kaayo pinaspasan—kay ang among guidelines kay three days before, dapat inform na namo. Kani, one-week informed na daan (We will deploy personnel there in coordination with the DPWH to check on compliance of trucks.

We’ll advise and coordinate with stakeholders, and once it’s approved by the City Council, we’ll start info dissemination. You’ll know once it’s final. Our office agrees with the timeline—it’s not too rushed, and we’re informing a week ahead, which is more than the 3-day requirement),” he said.He also added that on the part of CTTMO they approved the temporary closure schedule, as it gives them ample time to disseminate information in accordance with the guidelines.
