The Davao City Treatment and Rehabilitation Center for Drug Dependents (DCTRCDD) continues to champion education and recovery among its residents, with 20 students expected to graduate from junior and senior high school through the Alternative Learning System (ALS) program this May.

Dr. Michelle Maville Schlosser, the Officer-In-Charge and the Manager of the DCTRCDD, in an interview with the Madayaw Program over city-owned Davao City Disaster Radio (DCDR), said rehabilitation plays a vital role in reintegration.

“The rehabilitation center’s mission and goal is to reintegrate them in their families and communities nga fruitful sila (that they are fruitful), and one of their sword to become productive and fruitful saila’ng panginabuhi (in their lives) is to have their education,” she said.

The facility houses 71 admitted patients- 38 male adults, 24 female adults, and nine minor male patients.

Alongside education, DCTRCDD provides a range of services to support holistic recovery, such as social, medical, psychological, psychiatric, spiritual and religious, and sports and recreational services. Programs like therapeutic, psychotherapy, and family programs further aid residents’ progress.

The center is set to build an aftercare and outpatient facility to ensure continuous support for individuals recovering from substance use disorders.

The aftercare program will involve monitoring to prevent relapses and foster long-term success.

“After six months (stay in the rehabilitation center) dapat naa gyod na sila’y aftercare, kay ang aftercare, that means 18 months of monitoring, kung mubalik gyod ba sila sailahang bisyo kay diha man god ang relapse (After six months (of staying in the rehabilitation center), they should have aftercare, because aftercare means 18 months of monitoring if they do return to their vices because that’s where the relapse usually happen),” she said.

Schlosser also highlighted the center’s dedication to equipping patients with essential life skills to thrive upon reintegration into society. CIO
