The City Government of Davao is now planning to establish a temporary housing facility that will benefit those who are living in disaster prone areas.

Davao City Councilor Diosdado Mahipus Jr., in an interview over Davao City Disaster Radio Monday morning, bared that the city is gearing to have a housing intended for households in disaster prone areas. This is also in line with the city’s push for disaster preparedness.

“Naa ta’y plano nga naa tay kaugalingon nga interim housing facility para sa kadtong kinahanglan nato ibalhin kay naa sila sa danger zone. Naa may katalagman o wala, naa na sila’y kabutngan samtang ala pa silay permanenting kapuy-an (We have a plan to put up our own interim housing facility for those we need to relocate because they are located in a danger zone. Whether or not a calamity exists they can have a shelter while they are looking for permanent shelters),” Mahipus said.

He added that for the city’s disaster preparedness, they will not wait for disaster to happen before taking action.

Mahipus said that the facility is different from evacuation centers because beneficiaries can use it even without calamity.

He said that except for the location of the facility, everything is already in place, as there is a plan for the building, and the funding will be sourced from a private entity that committed to fund the building as part of its corporate social responsibility.

“Ang City Housing nag-identify sila og area sa third district (The City Housing Office has identified an area in the third district),” Mahipus said. CIO
