As part of its commitment to provide Dabawenyos with better services, the City Government of Davao procured and turned over 22 new disaster response vehicles to the city’s disaster and emergency response cluster.
On May 28, a blessing and ceremonial turnover of newly acquired assets was held at the City Hall Grounds.
The City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO) received a rubber boat equipment; a ram jack; an engine duo pump;a life detector device; a spreader; a blue hydraulic hose; an orange hydraulic hose; a double hose reel core; a V struts; a mobile high-pressure compressor; 120 pieces of rescue helmets with headlamp; two units of fiberglass multipurpose ladder; and two units of portable power station.
Four units of a pick-up type emergency response vehicles were turned over to the City Engineer’s Office (CEO), four units of fire trucks and an incident command vehicle were turned over to the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), and a pick-up truck and a patient transport vehicle were turned over to the Coast Guard Station Davao.
The Task Force Davao (TFD) also received six mobile emergency vehicles and two pick-up vehicles, while the City Agriculturist’s Office (CAgrO) received two farm tractors.
During the blessing and ceremonial turnover, Mayor Sebastian Duterte, in a message read by Asst. Chief of Staff Atty. Jonah Margarette Presto, said that the newly acquired emergency and disaster response equipment and vehicles will bolster the response capabilities of the city’s safety and security cluster.
“[It] will enable them to discharge their duties to protect the lives, properties, and livelihood of the public to the best of their abilities,” he said.
“Today’s batch of 22 new vehicles and equipment is a reflection of our continuing commitment to ensure that government funds, sourced from the people, are given back to the people, in concrete and tangible programs, projects, vehicles and equipment that will be felt both by Dabawenyos and all those who come here for business and leisure,” Duterte furthered.
Alfredo Baloran, CDRRMO’s Head, assured the public that the city continues to further enhance its disaster and emergency response capabilities.
“We did not limit our capacity to enhance our resources. Continuous ang atoang enhancement sa atoang mga gamit. In fact, naa ta’y mga for deliveries, naa ta’y mga proposal (We did not limit our capacity to enhance our resources. Our efforts to further enhance our equipment and vehicles are continuous, in fact, we have proposals, and there are equipment and vehicles that are now for delivery),” he said.
The 22 newly acquired disaster and emergency response vehicles and equipment are undergoing further inspection, commissioning procedures, and ongoing payment processes before they are officially deployed for operational use.
Last December 2024, the city also turned over 38 disaster and emergency response vehicles sourced from the local Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (DRRM) Fund and the Annual Development Fund.
