In celebration of the 46th National Disability Prevention and Rehabilitation (NDPR) Week, the City Government of Davao through the City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO) on Wednesday opened a trade fair showcasing both food and non-food products made by the Persons with Disability (PWDs) sector of the city.
Through the trade fair, the CSWDO aims to give an avenue to promote the products of the PWDs in the city as well as to support them in their livelihood.
The fair will run from July 17 to July 19, and is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Fourteen different exhibitors from the PWD sector put up booths outside the CSWDO building on Magallanes street.
Mayor Sebastian Duterte, in a message read by Councilor Temujin Ocampo during the short opening program at the Rizal Park, urged Dabawenyos to continue creating an inclusive Davao that recognizes the unique talents and perspectives of the PWD sector.
Duterte also emphasized the importance of ensuring that all Dabawenyo PWDs “have equal rights and opportunities, and are free from discrimination.”
He further assured that the city remains steadfast in its commitment to lead and support initiatives that aim to enhance the welfare of the PWDs in the city through various projects, programs and services.
Sara Festin, Assistant Department Head of the CSWDO, said the event also serves as a venue for building camaraderie in the community as well as to share knowledge, and further emphasize that the city ensures that every sector in the community is being catered to.
Several activities, like the Sayawitan, Harana and Poster Making Exhibit, are lined up to showcase the talents of the PWDs in the city.
Blind masseurs and beauty and healthcare services will also be available at the Rizal Park on July 18. CIO
