Davao City’s 20th City Council, during its 18th Regular Session on Tuesday, approved the ordinance implementing the establishment of the Davao City Public Internet Center.
The Davao City Public Internet Center, which will be established at the People’s Park, is a two-storey facility that will be equipped with computer units that Dabawenyos may use for free.
Its surrounding area will also be a WIFI zone where Dabawenyos can access for free.
The Public Internet Center is a project that intends to address the growing need for accessible connectivity, especially for underserved communities, and online research.
It may also serve as a training hub for job-seekers who plan to join the BPO industry.
The project is also part of the City Mayor Sebastian Duterte’s on-going digitalization programs and initiatives to make information and education more accessible to Dabawenyos.
Councilor Bonz Andre Militar, Chairperson of the Sangguniang Panlungsod’s Committee on Information Technology, said in an interview that Dabawenyos may avail of the services offered in the facility for free.
Dabawenyos only need to apply for membership with the Davao City Library and Information Center (DCLIC) as the Public Internet Center is complementary to the City Library’s free computer access.
Under the ordinance, the public internet center will have a total area of 746.38 square meters. The building will house the computer sets that the public may utilize.
Budget for the construction of the Public Internet Center will be included in this year’s annual supplementary budget. CIO
