The City Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO) warned the public anew of solicitation scams bearing names of alleged garbage collectors and the name of its office.
Recently, CENRO received reports of individuals claiming to be garbage collectors under CENRO who go door-to-door to solicit money for their gathering.
Engr. Lakandiwa Orcullo, Acting Division Head of CENRO’s Environmental Waste Management Division, in an interview with the Madayaw Program over city-owned Davao City Disaster Radio (DCDR) said that these individuals are not under their office, and any form or act of solicitation is strictly prohibited.
“Gipangsubay gyud namo ni sa amoang masterlist, sa roster sa amoang mga empleyado, wala ni. Dili ni sila mga empleyado sa CENRO (We already cross checked their names in our masterlist, in the roster of our employees, and they weren’t there. These individuals are not employees of CENRO),” he said.
“Dili ni sila nagarepresent sa amoang opisina. Wala pud ni sila’y katungod mangayo o magsolicit (They do not represent our office, and they also don’t have the right to solicit any amount),” he added.
The solicitation, acceptance of gifts or donations of any form, is a violation of the Code of Conduct and Ethical Standards of Public Officials and Employees.
Orcullo said that should they find any employees of their office soliciting or asking for donations, their office will not hesitate to take necessary disciplinary actions.
Orcullo also shared that this was not the first time that they received reports of the same modus.
He said that in December 2024, CENRO received reports through the Davao City Reports (DCR) of a group of people soliciting for a Christmas Party.
Dabawenyos are urged to be vigilant and verify the information of correspondences or notices they receive bearing the name of any government office.
Report suspicious activities to proper authorities or the offices involved. Dabawenyos may also file their complaints and reports in the Davao City Reports through these numbers: 0917 131 2333 and 0919 072 2222; through email at davaocityreports@davaocity.gov.ph; or message the DCR’s Official Facebook Page at https://www.facebook.com/davaocityreports.
