Mayor Sebastian Duterte officiated the wedding of 38 couples in a “Kasalan ng Bayan” or mass wedding in Buhangin on Wednesday, February 19.

The Kasalan ng Barangay is one of the initiatives of the City Government of Davao through the City Civil Registrar’s Office (CCRO) to provide civil registration services to Dabawenyos.

Mayor “Baste,” in his speech, stressed the importance of communication, respect, and trust in married life.

“Importante pod kaayo diri (marriage) ang role sa mga pamilya, ang mga sponsor pod ninyo, ang mga ninong og ninang (Your family and sponsors, including ninong and ninang, also play an important role in your marriage),” he said.

“Kung maglalis mo importante nga i-agi lang gyud og istorya. Labina tong naa na’y mga anak, kanang away dili gyud nato ipaatubang sa mga bata ang mga ingon ana kay maghatag na siya’g trauma (When you argue, it’s important to talk it through. Especially when you have children, you should not fight in front of your children because it will cause trauma),” she said.

Fherrou Timario and his new wife Nancy, who have been living together for five years, said they decided to get married for their children.

Nancy, who is expecting their second child, said being legally married is essential for their role as husband and wife as well as parents.

The couple also thanked the city government for organizing the “Kasalan ng Bayan.”

Following the mass wedding, the City Mayor’s Office, VIPs, and councilors gave each couple groceries, and gifts. CIO
