The City Population Division has recorded an increase in the number of acceptors of the No-Scalpel Vasectomy (NSV) for the year 2024.

A total of 126 clients have submitted themselves to the procedure. This is significantly higher than the 107 acceptors that the City Population had in 2023.

NSV Coordinator Justice Mindanao Rasgo, in an interview with the Kabataan, Pamilya ug Katilingban program over the city-owned Davao City Disaster Radio, said the increase in the number of acceptors also indicated an improvement in the active participation of men in family planning.

“Isa sad ni siya ka timailhan nga ang lalaki kay active na pud sa family planning (This is also one of the indicators that male-involvement in family planning is improving),” he said.

The NSV is one of the permanent family planning methods offered by the Davao City Health Office through the City Population Division. The procedure lasts for 15 minutes, and it only requires minimal aftercare with an average healing period of three days.

The NSV is non-invasive, safe, and poses lower risks compared to the bilateral-tubal ligation on women. It also has a 99.85 percent effectiveness rate.

The City Population Division offers the procedure for free, including the semen analysis done three months after the procedure.

Currently, there are a total of seven doctors who conduct the procedure— a welcome increase from the previous three service providers of the office.

Jerrielyn Lewis, Chief of the Population Division, also bared that one of the factors for the increase of acceptors of NSV and other programs of the population division is the intensified information education campaigns done by their personnel in the district offices.

“Naa pud mi mga katambayayong nga naa sa district nga dako pu’g tabang para sa tanang programa nga amoang gina-administer (Our personnel in the district offices played a significant role in the successful implementation of our programs and services),” she said.

The City Population Division also continues to educate men on the misconceptions of NSV as well as the importance of male involvement in family planning.
