The City Health Office’s (CHO) City Population Division logged a significant increase in the number of No-Scalpel Vasectomy (NSV) acceptors with 127 acceptors from January to June.

This is significantly higher than the 126 total number of NSV acceptors the office logged in 2024.

Jerrielyn Lewis, Head of the Population Division, said in an interview with the City Information Office that towards the end of 2024 and the first half of this year, they have observed a consistent increase in NSV acceptors.

“Towards the end of last year and is also proven in the first six months of this year, an obvious increase in the utilization of the NSV program has been observed,” she said.

“We from the CHO-Population Division are very delighted with this progress. This is an indicator that our campaigns to impart the [importance] of a well-planned family in the community is well-received,” Lewis added.

Since 2007, the CHO has been offering free NSV to the public. NSV is considered as one of the permanent family planning methods that the Population Division offers to Dabawenyos.

It is a non-intrusive procedure that lasts for only 10-15 minutes, and is considered safer than Bilateral Tubal Ligation (BTL).

NSV also only requires minimal aftercare, and has an efficacy rate of 99.85 percent.

To ensure its efficacy, the Population Division also offers free semen analysis done three months after the procedure.

NSV clients also undergo consultations and counselling to ensure that they are certain with their choice of undergoing the procedure.

With the consistent increase of NSV acceptors, the Population Division also started the roll out of this program twice every month instead of just during the last Friday of the month.

For the month of July, interested Dabawenyos who no longer wish to have more children may avail of this service for free on July 11 and on July 25 at the Buhangin Vasectomy Center.

Further details on the service can be accessed through the City Population Division’s official Facebook Pages: City Population Office of Davao (https://www.facebook.com/CityPopulationOfficeOfDavao) or Population Davao (https://www.facebook.com/PopulationDavao).

The office also offers other family planning methods that Dabawenyos may avail at the district and barangay health centers.

Dabawenyos are urged anew to avail of these free services from the City Health Office that are designed to cater to and serve the needs of the public. CIO
