The Davao City Health Office, through its Population Division, continues to strengthen its information dissemination to combat false information and debunk myths on the No-Scalpel Vasectomy (NSV).

Justice Mindanao Rasgo, City Population Division’s NSV Coordinator, in an interview with the Kabataan, Pamilya ug Katilingban program over city-owned Davao City Disaster Radio (DCDR), said vasectomy does not equate to castration.

“Mao na atoang isa ka ginapaningkamutan nga ipalayo nato ang kaning vasectomy sa ngalan nga kapon (This is one of the misinformation that we want to correct: vasectomy is not castration),” he said.

NSV is considered a permanent family planning method with a procedure that only lasts 10-15 minutes.

It is non-intrusive, and has an efficacy rate of 99.8 to 99.9 percent.

Rasgo clarified that unlike castration that pertains to the removal of testicles, the procedure for NSV only includes a small puncture on the scrotum to access the vas deferens or the tube that carries the sperm.

The CHO has been providing this service for free to Dabawenyos since 2007.

Every last Friday of the month, the City Population Division provides free NSV at the Buhangin Vasectomy Center with this month’s schedule on May 30.

Rasgo also shared that although Dabawenyos are the priority for this service, they also cater to men from outside the city.

He said that through this initiative, they are able to further the information dissemination on NSV and urge male members of the family to actively take part in family planning.

He added that the Population Division observed an improvement in the number of NSV acceptors in the city.

As of April this year, the CHO already logged a total of 63 NSV acceptors. This is more than half of the 2024 record of 124 acceptors.

The CHO, through the City Population Division, continues to urge Dabawenyos who no longer wish to have more children to consider NSV as a family planning method.

Dabawenyos who are interested in availing the CHO’s free NSV service may contact the City Population Office through its official Facebook page at City Population Office of Davao; or call or message them at 09952024680; or email them at citypopulationoffice@gmail.com.

The CHO also offers other family planning methods, both permanent and temporary. Dabawenyos may consult the population officers present in all District Health Centers. CIO
