The Public Employment Service Office (PESO) is inviting students aged 15–30, who are interested in continuing their studies, to avail of the Special Program for the Employment of Students (SPES).

Roselyn Tahil, an official from PESO, said in an interview with the Usapang Pambata: Special Office for Children’s Concern over the city-owned Davao City Disaster Radio (DCDR) that the SPES is a program specifically for youths who have yet to graduate college and are interested to work to continue their studies.

“Kining atoang programa kining Special Program for the Employment of Students, mao na siya ang programa sa mga kabataan. Ang maka-avail ani ang 15–17 years old, pero ang programa gyud ani is 15–30 years old sa Department of Labor and Employment [We have the Special Program for the Employment of Students for our youth sector. Students aged 15–17 years old may avail of the program; but actually, the program under Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) caters to students aged 15–30],” she said.

SPES Coordinator, Mr. Larry Barn L. Baltazar, also clarified that the program caters to out-of-school youth, elementary graduates, high school and senior high school, as well as students who are still in college. The program is designed to help underprivileged students find jobs that will allow them to earn while also studying.

Students who wish to avail of the program are encouraged to visit the PESO main office beside Almendras Gym with their birth certificate, 2×2 ID picture, and biodata.

According to Baltazar, they have coordinators in the main office who will guide the applicants in the online registration process.

“Ang atoang website sa SPES mao ni siya ang spes.dole11portal.org. Mao ni ang amoang SPES system kung asa sila pwede makaregister. Diri sa amoang office, kung pwede makabisita sila, tudluan namo sila unsaon pagregister ug unsa pud ang pwede na nila ma-upload pareha anang 2×2 ID picture, birth certificate, ug katong mga signature nila diri sa PESO main office [The SPES website is spes.dole11portal.org. This is our SPES system where they can register. If they can visit our office, we will guide them on the registration process as well as help them upload requirements on the site such as their 2×2 ID picture, birth certificate, and signatures],” he said.

Successful SPES grantees will render a 20-day service to one of the offices in the local government, and two days of orientation and briefing at the SPES office before they are deployed to partner businesses and agencies.

In 2023, 383 SPES beneficiaries were deployed in private establishments including MC Donald’s, General Baptist Bible College, Gaisano Mall, Golden Pathway, University of Mindanao & Local Government Unit. CIO
