The City Government of Davao has supported the 2025 Brigada Eskwela, which kicked off on Tuesday at the Teofilo V. Fernandez Elementary School in Indangan Buhangin.
During the kick-off activity, DepEd Davao City Schools Division Superintendent Reynante Solitario highlighted the City Government of Davao’s donation of books and reading materials for the various library hubs in schools.
“Inapprove po yan ni mayor, ng Local School Board. Masayang masaya kami sa tulong ni Mayor Sebastian Duterte (It was approved by the mayor, by the Local School Board. We are so happy for the help of Mayor Sebastian Duterte),” he said.
The strengthened advocacy for reading, literacy and numeracy are the added features of Brigada Eskwela 2025.
“Along the painting of classrooms we have to ensure that our learners can fully understand read and write,” Solitario said.
Solitario said that for the weeklong Brigada, the schools have prepared reading nooks for children as their parents process their enrollment or participate in the Brigada.
“The schools are encouraged to have reading corners sa mga classrooms nila and then at the time when they enroll the children and participate sa Brigada Eskwela, the double target is paglilinis at pag babasa ng mga bata (The schools are encouraged to have reading corners in their classrooms, and at the time when they enroll the children and participate in the Brigada Eskwela, we will hit double target, the cleaning and the reading of children),” Solitario said.
Solitario also thanked other supporters and donors for providing such materials as paint and additional school supplies for the schools.
He said classes will formally start on June 16, 2025.
They expect the same number of learners to enrol at 454,000, or similar to last year’s.
He also said that Davao schools are also accepting late enrollees. CIO
