The Davao City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO) reminded Dabawenyos against swimming along the shores near the coastal road.

CDRRMO Head Alfredo Baloran told reporters on Monday that the ban was aimed at preventing injuries to people.

“Bawal mag swimming sa may coastal road kay daghan ang gibutang na wave-breaker diha (Swimming is prohibited near the coastal road because of the many wave breakers placed in the area),” Baloran said.

He said that these structures may hurt people if they drift into them due to the waves.

He advised barangay authorities to put up “no swimming” signages to remind people of the dangers of swimming near the coastal road.

As this developed, Baloran said that they have monitored a low pressure area in the northern part of the country.

He urged Dabawenyos to check the weather advisories on heat index and rainfall.

“Gina-reiterate nato sa public nga bisan nakasinati kita og pagpanaligsik kada hapon, tungod kay naa tay heat index sa peak time kung naay activities sa gawas kinahangalan gyud ninyo magdala og tubig, juice and liquids para ma hydrate inyong lawas (We reiterate to the public that even if we experience light showers every afternoon, because of the heat index during peak time, we need to bring water juice, and liquids to hydrate their body in case they have activities outside),” he said.

Baloran also advised Dabawenyos not to overstay under the heat of the sun and bring rain and sun protection gear to avoid respiratory conditions brought about by the sporadic weather conditions. CIO
