The City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office (CDRRMO) on Friday said the Multipurpose Evacuation Centers in Mandug and in Catigan will be completed by the end of March.

CDRRMO chief Retired PCol. Alfred Baloran told the City Information Office that the evacuation centers are near completion as these only lack electricity and water connections.

“Kani nga project is very important, especially kung duna ta’y mga kalamidad, kay kani siya nga mga project kay multipurpose evacuation areas, meaning, kung dili siya magamit kung wala ta’y mga evacuees, naa ni siyay area nga pwede pod gamiton for any other activities like naay mga training (This project is important, especially during disasters, because these projects are multipurpose evacuation areas— that is, if they are not used when don’t have evacuees, they have an area that can be used for any other activities like training),” he said.

He said the CDRRMO, the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), Office of the Civil Defense (OCD XI), and City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO) have already checked the evacuation centers on February 18.

He said the evacuation centers, which have prayer and comfort rooms, can accommodate 500 people who need temporary shelter due to various disasters. CIO
