City Government of Davao, through the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO), is set to construct the Malagos Warehouse Building, a state-of-the-art storage facility for disaster relief supplies.

A groundbreaking ceremony held on Tuesday, April 29, 2025, at Barangay Malagos marked the official start of the project.

CDRRMO Head Alfredo Baloran told reporters that the new warehouse, funded through the Local Risk Reduction and Management Fund 2024, is designed to serve as a vital storage facility for disaster relief supplies, including food and non-food essential items.

“This is part of the project of our beloved mayor to enhance the services of our responses [and] disaster preparedness para sa atong katawhan diri sa Davao City (for our people here in Davao City),” he said.

“Of course dili lang siya for emergencies, but stocking for other resources nato for responses kay naa ta’y uban diha nga [items] nga mahalon nga dapat gyod na siya ma safety (It is not just for emergencies but stocking other resources for our responses because we have other valuable items there that need to be safe),” he said.

He also said that the CDRRMO plans to build a warehouse in every district in Davao City.

Mayor Sebastian “Baste” Duterte, in his message delivered by Davao City Administrator Attorney Mark Layog, reiterated that enhancing disaster preparedness and capabilities remains a top priority of Davao City.

He said that the project will be a testament to the city’s commitment to prioritize the safety and security of Dabawenyos.

“We are optimistic that through this project, we are taking proactive and strategic steps to ensure that Davao City does not only remain a vibrant and thriving home for all but also becomes a model of safety, resilience, and preparedness in the face of present and future challenges,” he said.

The mayor also commended the CDRRMO, the City Engineers Office (CEO), and all stakeholders who contributed to making the project a reality.

“We look forward to see the Malagos Warehouse Building stand as a vital asset to the city’s emergency response efforts. It is our hope that we continue to invest in infrastructure in Disaster Risk Management and preparedness programs that will safeguard our people’s well-being and future,” he said.
