The City government of Davao, through the City Disaster Risk and Reduction Management Office (CDRRMO), on Thursday activated its Emergency Operations Center (EOC), placing the city under “blue alert” for the celebration of the 88th Araw ng Dabaw.

The CDRRMO said the blue alert strengthens the preparations for the celebration in an effort to guarantee a 24-hour surveillance on weather systems and incidents. The term “blue alert” is implemented to protect the safety and security of both locals and visitors who will be taking part in the celebrations.

The CDRRMO said the primary reason for raising the alert status to blue is to prepare for any untoward incidents that may occur during the entire event, which may require immediate emergency medical intervention. The alert status increases the need for proactive disaster preparedness and response as well as resource augmentation.

The CDRRMO will adopt the blue alert status throughout the Araw ng Dabaw celebration from March 1 to 16.

The Sanggunian Panglungsod on February 27 passed a resolution activating the EOC to ensure continuous coordination of all efforts, monitor the situation closely, and implement security and safety measures for the safe observance of the event,” the resolution said. CIO
