The City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office (CDRRMO) continued to remind residents living in landslide-prone areas to check unusual land movements amid heavy rains experienced in the city.
“Sa atong opisina sigehan nato og pa-bisita ginapabalik balikan nato nang lugar nga adunay landslide prone area labi na sa didto nagpuyo ginapahimangnoan sila kung naa sila nga kung aduna’y unusual nga paglihok diha sa yuta, dapat hawa sila dayon diha immediately vacate the area para sa kasiguruhan sa ilang safety (Our office regularly visit landslide-prone areas and tell the residents that there that if they observe unusual movement of soil, they should evacuate immediately, vacate the area to ensure their safety),” CDRRMO Head Alfredo Baloran said in an interview with Davao City Disaster Radio on Thursday.
Baloran said that Dabawenyos should always bring raincoats and umbrellas as localized thunderstorms brought about by the Shear line have been forecast to affect the city in the remaining days of the week.
Apart from landslide-prone areas, Dabawenyos living in flood-prone areas and flood-impact areas and creeks should also conduct pre-emptive evacuation if necessary.
He added that the concerned Barangay Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Councils and volunteer groups are advised to monitor their areas of responsibility.
To ensure the safety of Dabawenyos amid the issuance of PAGASA’s (Mindanao PRSD) Heavy Rainfall Warning No. 2 at 11:10 am on January 18, 2024, the City Government of Davao issued a public advisory regarding the suspension of classes in all levels in public and private educational institutions in Davao City effective noon of the same day.
