Dabawenyos are invited to join Duaw Davao’s Hugyaw Davao: A Night of Fun and Colors on June 23, 2024 at Rizal Park.

The event is in line with the “Visit Davao” campaign, which aims to attract local and foreign tourists to Davao City.

“Aduna kita’y singers,
dancers, drag queens and LGBT groups nga mu participate from the name itself the night of fun and colors. It is a celebration of color and life with different diversities, and different sectors (We have singers, dancers, drag queens, and LGBT groups that will participate, from the name itself the night of fun and colors. It is a celebration of color and life with different diversities and different sectors),” Teeny Arnaiz, one of Duaw Davao’s organizers, said in an interview with the Madayaw Dabaw radio program on Tuesday.

“Kita Dabawenyos kita nasayud nga we are offering a lot diri sa Davao when it comes to tourism gikan baka sa abroad, gikan baka sa Luzon, Visayas, you can feel that you are at home kay you can relax, you can work naa ta’y mga new destination diri sa Davao City (We Dabawenyos know that we are offering a lot when it comes to tourism, you may be from abroad, or from Luzon or Visayas but you can feel that you can relax, and you can work here, we the new destinations in Davao City),” Arnaiz added.

Arnaiz said that the showcase falls in June, which is also the
Pride month.

“Ang Pride celebration nato dili lang para sa LGBT sector, it is for everybody sa nagkadaiyang sector naa ta’y kaugalingon nga pride. Garbo nato nga kita naga trabaho sa gobyerno, garbo nato nga kita nag serbisyo sa katawhan, nga usa ka ka nurse, policeman, or estudyante nga naningkamot makahuman og eskwela (The Pride celebration is not only for the LGBT sector, it is for everybody as we take pride in something. We take pride that we work in the government, we take pride that we can be of service to the public, that somebody is nurse or a policemen, or a student that is doing his/her best to finish school),” Arnaiz said.

Arnaiz said that they wanted everyone to realize the things that they should be proud of.

As a member of the LGBT, Arnaiz said that they are grateful to the city government for the opportunities and the inclusivity their community gets from the city government.

Apart from the Hugyaw sa Davao, which will start at 6 pm on June 23, a Pride March will also be held starting at 3 pm from Rizal Park.

Duaw Davao Pride Sportsfest will also be held from June 21-23 at the Davao City Recreational Center, Almendras Gym.
