In order to secure a peaceful and orderly Davao Regional Athletics Association (DAVRAA) Meet experience, the Davao City Public Safety and Security Office (PSSO), in partnership with the Department of Education, has prepared an orientation for players, coaches, and officials of DAVRAA, even as it also embarks on the distribution of the manual of operations as additional guide for them.
PSSO Head Angel Sumagaysay, during the I-Speak Media forum on Tuesday, March 26, 2024, at the City Health Office Conference Room, said the dos and don’ts will be disseminated upon the arrival of the participants from March 30-31, 2024.
Sumagaysay said that laws within Davao City will be shared with athletes and coaches for their guidance.
“The orientation will include [dissemination of] kadtong mga laws to strictly abide within Davao City, number one: bomb jokes are strictly prohibited, illegal drugs are strictly prohibited, firearms are strictly prohibited, curfew on minors shall be strictly enforced. Naka indicate na didto unsa’y mga oras para dili sila malibog, consumption of intoxicating beverages is prohibited, smoking is strictly prohibited and operation of drones is prohibited (The orientation will include the dissemination of rules to strictly abide within Davao City, number one bomb jokes are strictly prohibited, illegal drugs are strictly prohibited, firearms are strictly prohibited, the curfew on minors shall be strictly enforced, the hours are already indicated to avoid confusion; consumption of intoxicating beverages is prohibited, smoking is prohibited and operation of drones is prohibited),” Sumagaysay said.
He also added that the speed limits implemented in Davao City will be discussed during the orientaion.
For athletes and coaches, it will also be emphasized that they are not allowed to leave the billeting compound unless there is written approval from the quartermasters. The participants must always have their IDs with QR codes at all times and non-transparent bottles and containers are prohibited.
“Backpacks are prohibited except for players and officials who will be playing and officiating in the playing venues, then sharp objects are also prohibited in the playing venues. Mao ang i-disseminate namo earlier before formally i-open ang atong DAVRAA (These are among the things that we will disseminate before the formal opening of DAVRAA),” Sumagaysay said.
Davao City Schools Division Superintendent Renante Solitario, during the same forum, emphasized that the culture of security will be their topmost priority.
“Prior to the conduct of the opening on April 1, we will show them our culture of security video,” Solitario said, adding that a manual of operations will also be distributed.
“Ang manual of operations ay may compiled ordinances, mga policies natin, list of hospitals, billeting schools, hotline numbers, and we will distribute this para meron sila’y guide what to do and where to contact (The manual of operations contains compiled ordinance, policies, list of hospitals, billeting schools, hotline numbers and we distribute this so that they will be guided as to what to do and whom to contact),” Solitario said.
The DAVRAA Meet,which will be held from April 1-7, will be attended by more than 7,000 athletes and delegates from all over the region who will compete in more than 47 sporting events, which will be played in 24 scattered playing venues in the city. They will be housed in 11 billeting schools all over the city.
The PSSO will deploy a total of 14,966 integrated security personnel for the events, or with an average deployment of 1,871 security personnel per day. The office assigned 37 integrated safety and security personnel in each billeting quarter and 44 personnel in each playing venue.
