The Office of Senior Citizens Affairs (OSCA), in partnership with the City Government of Davao and the private sector, held the Elderlympics 2024 on December 7 and 9.

The event was participated in by senior citizen representatives from all 15 districts of the city.

OSCA Head Lorenzo Borja said the Elderlympics was aimed at further enhancing the camaraderie and unity among the senior citizens in the city.

“So ang atoang tuyo diri kay para sa atoang mga katigulangan para magpadayon ang ila’ng exercise, unya kadtong ila’ng camaraderie, ug unity. Importante nga naa’y kahiusahan sa mga tigulang (Our goal here is to ensure the physical fitness of our senior citizens, further their camaraderie and unity. It is important that our senior citizens are united),” he said.

The health benefits of being physically active was also highlighted during the event.

On the first day of the event, senior citizens competed in various board games, indoor games, and recreational sports events at the Davao City National High School.

Teams also competed in the dance sports category during the culmination of the event at the SM Annex.

Vice Mayor J. Melchor Quitain Jr. also honored the senior citizens in the city in his speech during the culmination of the Elderlympics.

“If it were not for you, Davao City would not be so recognized in the entire world, in the entire Philippines,” he said.

“Very progressive ang Davao City all because the old or the past people or generation who lived here really took care of the city and now we are reaping the benefits (Davao City is very progressive because the old generation who lived here has taken care of the city, and we are now reaping the benefits),” he said.

Tugbok District was crowned as overall champion of the Elderlympics followed by Calinan District and Buhangin B District. CIO
