To honor the hard work and dedication of Dabawenyo teachers, the City Government of Davao in coordination with the Department of Education Davao City Division (DepEd) celebrated the World Teachers’ Day on October 11.

More than 12,000 teachers from different schools and districts in the city participated in the event held at the University of Southeastern Philippines (USEP) Gym.

Various activities were prepared including raffle draws and stand-up comedy to entertain the teachers on their special day.

Mayor Sebastian Duterte also extended his gratitude to the teachers in the city for their dedication in teaching and molding the next generation of Dabawenyos.

In his message, Duterte also emphasized the crucial role of teachers in shaping not only the minds of the students but also their values.

“Ang atoa ra man gyud diri is maka-produce ta og mga estudyante nga from being students to hangtod sa mahuman sila’g eskwela contributors gyud sila sa society (We want to produce students who will become contributors in the society),” he said.

Duterte also assured the teachers in the city that the city government is always willing to extend help and support to the education sector of the city.

“If in any way sa local government diri sa Davao naa mo’y problema since i-reiterate nako crucial inyohang role sa society, sa atoang mga eskwelahan diri sa Davao if applicable sa inyo, duola lang mi ninyo kung naa mo’y kinahanglan (Should you need assistance from the City Government of Davao, don’t hesitate to approach us because like I said, your role in the society is very crucial),” he said.

Reynante Solitario, Department of Education Davao’s Schools Division Superintendent, also expressed his gratitude to the teaching personnel in the city.

“We honor them, we value them, and today we celebrate them because they really give value to our students for training them to become valuable in the society and at the same time become disciplined in our city,” he said. CIO
