FREE VEHICLE EMISSION TEST
NOVEMBER 15, 2024

In celebration of the National Clean Air Month, the City Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO) together with the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) conducted a Free Vehicle Emission Test last November 15, 2024 at Roxas Avenue, Davao City and last November 22, 2024, at the Diversion Road, Davao City, for all vehicles in Davao City.

About the City Environment and Natural Resources Office

HISTORY

The City Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO) of Davao City was established in response to the growing need for sustainable environmental management and natural resource conservation in the City. Its creation aligns with mandates of the Republic Act. No. 7160 also known as the “Local Government Code of 1991”, which grants local government units the authority to implement environmental programs and policies.

Davao City, being one of the largest and most ecologically diverse cities in the country, recognized the critical role of preserving its natural resources and addressing issues like deforestation, waste management, and pollution. Thus, CENRO was created by virtue of Executive Order No. 6, signed by City Mayor Hon. Rodrigo R. Duterte on February 12, 1993, to focus on these challenges, implementing programs that promote environmental protection, climate resilience, and sustainable development. 

Mandate and Functions

The City Environment and Natural Resources Office shall take charge on all matters relative to the protection, conservation, maximum utilization, application of appropriate technology and other matters related to the environment and natural resources within the context of a balanced ecology.

Vision

The City Environment and Natural Resources Office envision a clean and green city and the sustainable utilization of its natural resources within the context of a balanced ecology and intergenerational equity.

Mission

The City Environment and Natural Resources Office shall provide efficient and cost-effective environmental programs and enforce policies towards the protection and conservation of natural resources in partnership with all sectors of society.

Goal and Objectives

  • To ensure that Davao City has a clean, green and healthy environment.
  • To promote proper management and utilization of its natural resources.
  • To implement mitigating measures to prevent and control land, air and water pollution in coordination with government agencies and non-government organizations.
  • To establish, maintain, protect and preserve communal forests, watersheds, tree parks, mangroves, greenbelts and similar forest projects. and commercial forest like industrial tree farms and agro-forestry projects.

Office Profile (Recipient)

The City Environment and Natural Resources Office is tasked as the leading department to implement the city’s environmental management programs. It aims in strengthening the conservation, protection, and rehabilitation of the environment in both lowland and upland areas within the jurisdiction of Davao City.

Services we provide :

  • Collects and Disposes garbage in 3 shifting in the 112 barangays of the City of Davao
  • Establishment of Bio-diesel projects in Maa composting area.
  • Maintains 21 parks and playgrounds, roadsides, 7 monuments and 8 nurseries within the City’s jurisdiction.
  • Undertakes watershed management activities, such as monitoring and massive planting of trees.
  • Monitors activities that implement measures to prevent and control the land, air and water pollution.
  • Undertakes Intensified information Campaigns on households, Offices, schools, barangays and business establishments relative to the environmental awareness and management.
  • Assists in the verification of all the requests for cutting or trimming of trees since the office is one of the recommendatory agencies for the issuing of cutting/ trimming permit of the DENR.
  • Conducts clean up drive to the different areas of the barangays within the Davao City.
  • Undertakes rehabilitation of the existing sanitary landfill in Barangay New Carmen, Poblacion District.
  • Tasked in the rehabilitation of upland areas and re-greening of the urban areas to ensure the continuous.
  • Issues solid waste management certification as one of the requirements in applying business permit.
  • Caters application as well as quarry permit for earthfill sand and gravel and limestones.
  • Distributes seedlings and composts during caravans since it is one of the Mayor’s prioritized programs.
