A total of 564 job seekers attended the three-part job fair in Calinan, Toril, and Mintal.

The job fair was initiated by Davao City Third District Councilor Lorenzo Benjamin Villafuerte, in partnership with the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA), Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE), and the Public Employment Service Office (PESO).

The event began on January 31 in Barangay Crossing Bayabas in Toril, then in Mintal on February 7. It ended on February 14 in Calinan Gymnasium, Calinan Poblacion, Davao City.

Villafuerte, in an interview with the city-owned Davao City Disaster Radio, said the annual career fair was aimed at bringing closer employers to the job seekers, particularly in the third district where workplaces are located far from main offices.

He said the career fair, now on its 17th year, was first initiated by his father, the late Councillor Louie Villafuerte, and continued by his mother, Dr. Joselle Villafuerte.

He said in Toril, 49 out of 181 applicants were hired on the spot, while in Mintal, 14 out of 134 were hired on the spot. In Calinan, 24 out of 249 were hired on the spot based on PESO’s initial report.

Approximately 1,000 job openings was available to job seekers during the jobs fair, in which both domestic and international employers are taking part. Call center representatives, marketing supervisors, content creators, corporate marketing associates, video editors, and financial planning and analysis specialists are among the positions that local firms are looking for. Jobs abroad include service workers, servers, nurses, and cleaners.

In a separate interview with Madayaw on Friday, Villlafuerte said they will continue to conduct the job fair every first quarter of the year.

“Kanunay mi naga partner with PESO, [naga job fair mi] first quarter of the year gyud kay kasagaran daghan gyud mangita og trabaho usually ana nga time ilabina to’ng three months [or] six months lang ilahang trabaho, pagka-January daghan gyud mangita (We always partner with PESO, we conduct job fair every first quarter of the year since a lot of people seek for jobs around that time, especially those who have a three-month or six-month contract),” he said.

For announcements on vacancies, particularly in Davao City, Dabawenyos are advised to check the Davao City PESO page. CIO
