The 88th Araw ng Dabaw celebration showcased the unity of Dabawenyos, as thousands gathered for the Parada Dabawenyo and Solidarity Walk on March 16.

More than 400 groups—including private organizations, government offices, institutions, companies, and schools—showcased the city’s unity and the rich diversity of its stakeholders during the Parada Dabawenyo.

Clad in black shirts with red ribbons, thousands also participated in the Solidarity Walk, which followed the Parada Dabawenyo.

The Solidarity Walk was held as a call for the return of former President Rodrigo Duterte—one of the city’s pillars. The attendees voiced their collective plea to the government.

During a speech at San Pedro Square after the walk, Davao City Mayor Sebastian “Baste” Duterte expressed his gratitude to the attendees for supporting the Duterte family.

“In behalf of our family, akong tulo ka igsuon, mama tanan mi nga mga Duterte nga nagsakit karon tungod sa nahitabo among amahan, salamat kaayo gyud sa inyong suporta. Salamat kaayo sa inyong ginapakita. Salamat kaayo pero samtang naa pata diri dili gyud ta muundang, dili gyud ta mapildi basta nagkahiusa lang kita nga Dabawenyo. Mabuhay ang Davao City (On behalf of our family—my three siblings, my mother, and all of us Dutertes who are deeply affected by what happened to our father—I sincerely thank you for your support. Thank you for standing with us. As long as we are here, we will not stop, we will not be defeated, as long as we, the Dabawenyos, remain united. Long live Davao City!)” the mayor said.

Earlier that day, the mayor also extended his gratitude to Dabawenyos in the city and supporters of former President Duterte abroad.

The Solidarity Walk received strong support from city officials from both the executive and legislative branches, deputy mayors from 11 tribes, city government employees, and Dabawenyos from all districts. CIO
