The Davao City Agriculturist Office (CAgrO) today, September 16, officially launched the start of the 61st Fish Conservation Week.
This year’s Fish Conservation (FishCon) Week, with the theme “Sama- sama Tungo sa Maunlad at Likas-kayang Pangisdaan sa Bagong Pilipinas,” opened during the flag-raising ceremony at City Hall and will be celebrated until September 20.
Pableta Almador, Senior Agriculturist of the City Agriculturist Office (CAgrO), said this year’s celebration will highlight the “significance of fish and other organic products for both public health and the nation’s economy.”
The CAgrO, in collaboration with the Fisheries Aquatic Resources Management Council (CFARMC), has lined up activities for this year’s FishCon.
Today, the CAgrO district offices will be distributing hito fingerlings.
They will also disperse tilapia fingerlings at the different CAgrO district offices on September 18, and bangus fingerlings in Punta Dumalag, Matina Aplaya on September 20.
A consultation for practitioners and the Aquatic Resources Management Council over the proposed changes to Davao City’s Comprehensive Fisheries Ordinance will be held at the World Palace on September 17.
On September 19, the CAgrO, in collaboration with the City Fishery Office of the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources, will hold fishing gear distribution in selected coastal barangays.
Almador also urged the public to participate in the activities.
“We encourage everyone to actively participate and make the most of these meaningful events. Together, let’s advance towards a more prosperous and environmentally responsible Davao City,” Almador said. CIO
