Various seedlings were distributed along with a series of engaging activities during the Fisherfolk’s Month celebration of the City Agriculturist Office (CAgrO) Tugbok District Office on Friday at New Valencia, Tugbok District.

With the theme “Himsug nga Katilingan, Mag-uumang Mangigisda ang Kinahanglan,” the event emphasized the significance of fisherfolk and farmers in ensuring food security and sustaining local agricultural industries.

The celebration started with a mass, bringing together local fisherfolk, farmers, and agriculture stakeholders in a spirit of unity and appreciation for their contributions.

Engineer Joselito Tabora, Agricultural Officer of Tugbok District, said the activities were aimed at recognizing and honoring the efforts of farmers while encouraging knowledge-sharing among different barangays.

Following the mass, 16 barangays from Tugbok District competed in various contests, including the Best Booth Competition and Pinaka Competition, where farmers contested for the biggest pumpkin, coconut, cacao, and the longest green beans and eggplant.

Other interactive activities included Farmers Got Talent, parlor games, and raffle draw, where attendees won farming-related products to support their livelihood.

The event also included seedling distribution, where farmers received Marang, Guyabano, and Bayabas seedlings.

“Importante ni siya sa mag-uuma, this is the time magkita kita ang [participants] sa nagkalain-laing barangay at the same time mag istorya-istorya unsa’y mga innovations, unsay ilahang mahimo, successful stories, para makahimo sila’g pamaagi og unsaon pag-improve sa ilahang farming system (This is an important gathering for farmers as it allows them to exchange ideas, share successful stories, and discuss ways to improve farming systems),” he said.

Tabora also urged farmers to participate in this year’s activities for Fisherfolk Month. CIO
