The Davao City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO), in partnership with the Department of Social Welfare and Development, turned over the Project Lawa at Binhi to residents of Barangays Carmen and Cadalian in Baguio District.

The project was made in coordination with the Davao City Agriculturist’s Office (CAgrO) and the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR).

The Project Lawa at Binhi is one of the sustainable livelihood programs of these agencies that aims to further the poverty alleviation efforts of the government.

Fifty residents from the women’s association and the men’s support group in the area benefit from the project located in Macatabo Farm in Carmen.

Project Lawa at Binhi consisted of a newly-constructed fish pond and Tilapia fingerlings from the BFAR, as well as plant seedlings from the CAgrO.

Gilda Salvaña, CSWDO’s Officer-in-Charge, in her message of support said that considering how the beneficiaries came from different sectors in Carmen and even from the neighboring barangay of Cadalian, it is a testament that programs and services of the government are for everyone.

“Diha nato makita nga dili siya kanang exclusive, kun dili inclusive ang atoang programa ug serbisyo. Wala pud siya’y gipili kung kinsa lang nga barangay lang ang hatagan kung dili asa ‘tong andam na nga mudawat sa programa ug serbisyo (This is proof that our programs and services are inclusive. The project did not limit its beneficiaries to a single barangay, but rather it was granted to those who are ready to receive the program and the services),” she said.

Before the project was turned over to the community, the beneficiaries also received capability-building training. This is not only to prepare them for the project, but also to ensure its sustainability.

Salvaña also urged the beneficiaries to communicate well and work well with the other members of their association to resolve any conflicts and to maintain this livelihood project.

She also assured the community that the City Government of Davao, through the CSWDO, CAgrO, and other partner agencies are ready to help and support the community.

“Kami, sa ngalan sa atoang City Mayor Sebastian Z. Duterte, sa amoang Department Head Ma’am Julie P. Dayaday, amoang ipaabot sa inyoha nga naa mi kanunay sa inyo’ng likod, sa inyong kiliran, para lang magmalampuson ang atoang mga gipangandoy nga mahaw-as ta sa kalisdanan (On behalf of our City Mayor Sebastian Z. Duterte and our Department Head Ma’am Julie P. Dayaday, we extend our support to the community to ensure that we will be successful in our bid for poverty alleviation),” Salvaña said.

Andy Cabantao, one of the beneficiaries, expressed the group’s gratitude to the government for the livelihood project in their community.

He also assured that the beneficiaries will work together and ensure the sustainability of the project.

The City Government of Davao continues to provide programs, projects, and services that cater to all Dabawenyos to ensure the growth and development of every community. CIO
