The Davao City Library and Information Center’s (CLIC) Mobile Library Program has resumed its services of visiting schools to bridge the gaps in learning opportunities and to support literacy.
Davao City has three mobile libraries, with one intended for daycare centers, and another that is tailored to provide Emergency Preparedness lectures.
These mobile libraries are part of the CLIC’s outreach program to support the literacy of students.
“We intend to develop love for books and readings, especially didto sa farflung barangays since we also want to bridge the gap between what we have here (We intend to develop love for books and reading, especially in schools in farflung barangays since we also want to bridge the gap between what we have here and what rural areas have),” Salome Enoc, CLIC’s Officer-in-Charge, shared.
She added that the mobile library visits public schools whole year-round. It operates from Mondays to Thursdays, with Fridays reserved for catering to private schools’ requests and routine maintenance.
Recently, the Department of Education (DepEd)-Davao City Division reported a 93.5 percent basic literacy rate in Davao City, which was a result of the city’s sustained commitment to inclusive and accessible education.
Reynante Solitario, DepEd Davao Schools Division Superintendent, said in an interview that one of the key factors that drove this level of literacy rate in the city was the support from the CLIC’s Mobile Library program.
The Mobile Library Services include arts and crafts, book reading sessions, day care (blue bus), film showing, puppetry, and storytelling.
On August 18, the Mobile Library will be at the Generoso Elementary School; J.V. Ferriols Elementary School on August 19; Columbos Elementary School on August 26; and on August 28, the Mobile Library will be at the Emilio J. Estipona National High School.
The CLIC also has district libraries located in Calinan, Baguio, Buda, Toril, and Tugbok. The center is also eyeing to establish another district library in Toril.
Dabawenyos are urged to visit the district libraries and avail of their services. CIO
