Authorities on Wednesday, July 30, 2025, banned sea travels and other water activities, including swimming, in Davao City amid the tsunami warning in the wake of the magnitude 8.7 Russian earthquake.

Face to face classes along coastal areas were also suspended as the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) issued Tsunami Information No. 2, warning of waves measuring less than one meter that may arrive between 1:20 pm to 2:40 pm in coastal areas of the Philippines that face the Pacific Ocean.

The Davao City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO) warned Dabawenyos against swimming or doing any water activities in the city’s coastal areas.

Barangay Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Councils (BDRRMCs), Disaster Volunteer Groups, and Safety and Security Clusters in coastal barangays were also advised to closely monitor their respective areas of responsibility.

Pre-emptive evacuations for residents in coastal communities were also ordered.

CDRRMO posted a live monitoring of the cameras facing the coastal areas of the city.

The Philippine Coast Guard issued Sea Travel Advisory No. 2 which ordered the temporary suspension of all the trips of ships/watercrafts, regardless of the gross tonnage, and also also told fisherfolk to stay away from the sea.

The Department of Education Schools Division of Davao City said in lieu of the face to face classes, schools have to shift to the blended learning modality. Teaching and non-teaching personnel are advised to work from home, and Public Schools District Supervisors are advised to monitor the schools covered by the advisory.

The CDRRMO advised Dabawenyos to continuously monitor official updates and take appropriate actions in response to the situation. CIO
