The City Government of Davao, through the Public Safety and Security Office (PSSO), held on Friday a multi-sectoral security and safety forum at Grand Men Seng Hotel.
A total of 63 representatives from hospitals, pawnshops, schools, hotels, bus companies, van terminals, security services and
KTV Bars attended the forum.
PSSO Head Angel Sumagaysay told Madayaw that the event was the second leg of the multi-sectoral forums that aims to generate feedback from stakeholders, in line with the continued implementation of safety and security policies, and programs within the city.
“Platform nato siya para mapadungog nato sa atong stakeholders for the development of Davao. In fact, 63 ka nga companies nagpadala sila og mga representatives ang pinaka importante ang mga pangutana nila. (This is a platform to listen to our stakeholders for the development of Davao. In fact, there are 63 companies that sent representatives –their questions to our speakers are very important),” Sumagaysay said.
During the forum, the PSSO shared its services and programs, primarily its role in the enforcement of the CCTV Ordinance and other ordinances in security and safety while the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office representative informed the participants about the areas that can be potentially hit by tsunamis, the emergency warning systems and disaster preparedness measures. The City Transport and Traffic Management Office also briefed the participants about general road rules and the corresponding fines and penalties for common traffic violations.
The Philippine Drug and Enforcement Agency, according to Sumagaysay, also provided an update on the status of illegal drugs in Davao City. Speakers from other safety and security offices were also invited.
“In this forum naa tanan tanan nga gusto mahibaloan sa atong mga stakehodlers (In this forum, everything that the stakeholders would like to know are given),” Sumagsaysay said, adding that they are planning another multi-sectoral security and safety forum for the youth.
Sumagaysay said that the stakeholders in the forum were informed that the city is the second safest city in the whole Philippines based on the World Travel Index.
He added that this would not have been possible without the stakeholders’ help. He also said that the fast propagation of the culture of security and the compliance of Dabawenyos with the safety and security protocols in Davao City also helped attain the said feat.
Sumagaysay added that Dabawenyos’ adherence to local safety and security policies is a precursor to the city’s rising development and continued progress.
“Nakita nato nga very obedient ang mga taga Davao City, so dili gyud imposible nga makab-ot nato ang atong gipangandoy nga tuloy-tuloy nga development and progress sa Davao City (We saw that Dabawenyos are very obedient, so it is not remote that we can attain our dreams of continued development and progress in Davao City),” he said.
