Pupils of Presco Diolosa Elementary School in Barangay Biao Guianga, Tugbok District, Davao City on Monday were able to taste nutrition-filled chocolate products during a feeding program conducted in line with the World Chocolate Day and the Nutrition Month.
City Agriculturist Office’s Institutional Development Division Head James Danac told Madayaw that the nutrition month and World Chocolate Day, themed “Tsokolateng Pinoy: Chocolates for every Juans” were commorated highligting the role of locally produced cacao in promoting nutrition and livelihood.
Danac said that the program opened with a short ceremony featuring welcome messages from key stakeholders, followed by a presentation of the Philippine Plan of Action for Nutrition (PPAN) and a discussion on the health benefits of cacao.
Danac added that the activity was spearheaded by the City Agriculture Office, in collaboration with the Davao City Cacao Industry Development Council and the Rural Improvement Club (RIC) City Federation, in partnership with the Barangay Local Government Unit (BLGU) of Biao Guianga, Presco Diolosa Elementary School, Barangay Health Workers (BHWs), City Health Office (CHO), and the Municipal Agriculture and Fishery Council (MAFC) Tugbok District.
“The team prepared and served champorado and sikwate—healthy cacao-based Filipino snacks—for the students and their parents,” Danac said.
He emphasized that the event is an example that food and nutrition program implementation can be successful with the partnership and collaboration of partner agencies from the city level down to the barangay level. CIO
