The 2025 Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises Development Week kicked off on Monday with a brief program during the flag raising ceremony at the City Hall grounds.

Bearing the theme “Asenso Negosyo, Angat Kabuhayan: Bagong Pilipinas,” this year’s MSME week is filled with activities that not only promote MSMEs but also celebrate their vital role in the city’s economy.

In a message read by the Davao City MSME Development Council vice chairperson Roland Suico, Acting Davao City Mayor Sebastian Duterte emphasized the importance of building stronger collaboration among partner agencies as well as strengthening support for sustainable programs and initiatives for MSMEs.

“This will enable enterprises not only to thrive, but also potentially grow into larger businesses contributing even more significantly to our economy,” he said.

MSMEs are one of the backbones of the country’s economy, and make up a majority of the businesses in the country.

Christian Cambaya, Acting Head of the Davao City Investment Promotion Center, shared that based on the report for the Philippine Statistics Authority, 99 percent of the businesses in the city are MSMEs.

“[MSMEs are] a crucial driving force for socioeconomic development as well as playing a significant role in jobs creation, poverty reduction, and innovation,” Duterte added.

Duterte also assured the MSMEs in the city that the city government will continue fostering an environment where MSMEs may thrive with equal access to opportunities and resources.

“[This] celebration will serve as a dynamic platform for knowledge exchange, connecting entrepreneurs with essential support system and resources to help local businesses flourish,” he furthered.

As part of the MSME Development Week celebration, several capacity building trainings are set to take place for the whole week including a Filipino Brand Service of Excellence Seminar on July 9 at the DTI Conference Room.

The MSME Week Trade Fair is also set to open on July 10 at the Abreeza Mall Activity Area. Alongside this are a series of capability seminars on digitalization, and a financing forum.

On July 11, seminars on business and technology, franchising, and proper waste management and disposal by establishments will take place at the Abreeza Activity Area.
