The City Health Office’s Nutrition Division credited Barangay Nutrition Councils in the implementation of Davao City’s nutrition program.
During the I-Speak Media Forum on Thursday, CHO Nutrition Division Head Elizabeth Banzon said that the city already has more than 150 BNCs.
“Kana man gud BNC, mao man gud na ang makatabang sa ato makatutok gyud didto sa ground-level nato (The BNCs is actually helpful as they focus on the ground level),” Banzon said.
She said barangays have varied cases of malnutrition with some having a number of acute malnourished constituents while some have more overweight population.
Banzon said that everyone in the community should be involved and should sit down to plan for nutrition.
She said that active barangay health workers and barangay nutrition scholars, in partnership with the Department of Education and the City Social Welfare and Development Office also contribute to maintaining the good health and proper nutrition of children in the barangays.
Meanwhile, Banzon said in line with the nutrition month, barangays are holding their own nutrition month celebration.
There will also be Buntis Congress in time for the nutrition month celebration in the month of July to be held in Barangay 37-B, and Barangay 39-D. CIO
