Davao City made it as fifth among the top 10 largest Highly Urbanized City (HUC) economy in terms of percentage share of the National Gross Domestic Product in 2023.
The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) bared this in its “2023 Economic Performance of the Highly Urbanized Cities in the Philippines”, which serves as additional information focusing on the national comparison of the 2023 economic performance of the 33 HUCs in the country.
Based on the same report, Davao City contributed 2.5 percent to the national GDP or about Php 532.54 billion.
Davao City is the only HUC in Mindanao included in the list.
It was behind Quezon City with 6 percent share; Makati CIty with 5.6 percent; Manila City with 4.7 percent share; and Taguig City with 2.7 percent share.
The PSA said based on the latest Provincial Product Accounts (PPA) results, all 33 Highly Urbanized Cities (HUCs) in the Philippines experienced economic growth in 2023. The total GDP of all HUCs was estimated at Php 9.23 trillion, contributing 43.8 percent to the 2023 national GDP. CIO
