A total of 164 participants from various city government offices on Friday, June 27 planted 2,500 tree seedlings in observance of National Arbor Day.

Through the tree planting activity held at Eden Summer Resort Reservation, 500 Sagimsim, 500 White Lauan, 500 African Tulip, and 1,000 Balitarhan seedlings were planted.

City Environment and National Resources Office (CENRO) head Engr. Marivic Reyes told Madayaw Davao that a total of 29 local offices and guest groups participated in the event.

The National Arbor Day is observed in line with national Proclamation No. 643 issued on June 9, 2004.

The Proclamation has institutionalized June 25 of every year as National Arbor Day in the Philippines, during which government agencies, including government owned and controlled corporations, the private sector, schools, civil society groups and citizens are enjoined to participate in tree planting activity.

It is done to promote a healthier ecosystem through the rehabilitation and re-greening of the environment. CIO
