A total of 277 Dabawenyo athletes and coaches received cash incentives and medals during the Araw ng Parangal at Pasasalamat on June 29, in recognition of the pride and honor they brought to the city during international and national sporting events.

The Araw ng Parangal at Pasasalamat is an annual recognition event for Dabawenyo athletes and coaches for their outstanding performances in regional, national, and international sports competitions including the Palarong Pambansa, Batang Pinoy, Para Games, and the BIMP-EAGA.

The City Government of Davao released a total of P4,935,000-worth of cash incentives to athletes and coaches following the incentives outlined in Ordinance No. 0102-22, Series of 2022 or the Ordinance on the Reward System for Athletes and Coaches who bring prestige and honor to the City of Davao.

Present during the event is the out-going mayor and Vice Mayor-elect Sebastian Duterte, Michael Denton Aportadera, head of the City Sports Development Division, athletes, coaches, trainers, and parents.

Duterte, in his message, lauded the athletes and their coaches for being modern local heroes who brought pride and honor to the city.

“Nalipay ko napakita nato ang atoang competitiveness despite sa tana’ng storya sa mga ubang lugar sa atoa ug napakita nato sa bisa’g unsa pa ma’ng klaseng palisod ug ang mga obstacles na maatbang nato nga we can emerge victorious despite of all the hardships and challenges that we face (I’m glad that even with the how other places perceive us, we were able to show our competitive spirit. That despite the obstacles that we encountered, the hardships and challenges we faced, we still emerged victorious),” he said.

“So pasalamat ko sa inyo’ng mga batan-on diha nga naningkamot mo di lang para sa inyong mga kaugalingon, para sa inyong siyudad ug higit sa lahat para sa inyo’ng mga ginikanan nga mao’y nagbantay sa inyoha, sa inyo’ng coach nga wala mo biyae ug sa mga tawo sa inyong palibot nga naghatag og importansya sa inyohang gisulod na sports or na activity (I am grateful to our young athletes who worked hard not only for themselves, but also for the city, and most importantly for their parents who raised you, your coaches who never left you, and everyone who gave importance to your sports),” Duterte added.

He also urged the athletes to keep pushing forward and work hard, assuring them that the city government will continue to support their athletic endeavors.

“Katong mga gustong magpadayon sa ilahang mga respective nga mga sports kung asa ninyo gusto, I want you to remember nga ang local government of Davao City will always support you (For those who wish to continue with their respective sports, I want you to remember that the City Government of Davao will always support you),” Duterte said.

“Do not ever hesitate to come to us and ask for the support that you need because para ma-sustain nato, and dili pud nako gusto as city mayor and also the people of Davao na masayang ang mga gifted and talented young people nato diri sa Davao City (Don’t hesitate to come to us and ask for the support that you need so that we can help you sustain it because I, as city mayor, and the Dabawenyos as well, don’t want to waste the gifted and talented people of Davao City),” he furthered.
