The Davao City Water District (DCWD) is eyeing the roll out of its sanitation service to Dabawenyos in the third quarter of the year as its state-of-the-art Septage Treatment Plant (SpTP) nears completion.
The SpTP is an important aspect of the Septage Management Program (SMP) as this facility is designed to treat the wastewater collected during the implementation of the program.
Located in Barangay Indangan, the facility has a hundred cubic meter capacity or 100,000 cubic meters of septage. This is expandable to 200 cubic meter capacity.
DCWD Spokesperson Jovana Cresta Duhaylungsod, during the SMP media presentation, said the facility is already 93 percent completed and is set to be in full condition in August or September.
She added that during the implementation of the SMP, the DCWD will schedule the dislodging of septic tanks in a five-year cycle.
“Ang amoang five-year dislodging cycle is anchored on proximity sa planta because it would be illogical nga unahon namo’g habwa ang naa sa Calinan (The schedule of our five-year dislodging cycle is anchored on the proximity of the area to the treatment plant because it would be illogical to schedule areas far from the SpTP first),” Duhaylungsod said.
Households located in Barangay Indangan, Barangay Communal, Barangay Mudiang, Barangay Mandug, and Barangay Panacan will be scheduled first for the dislodging.
Duhaylungsod explained anew that the SMP is a collaborative project with the city government to serve as an interim solution for the city’s sewerage.
“Ang tumong is to provide an effective way to manage the waste coming from the septic tanks and ensure nga sakto ang pag-dislodge, transport, treat, and dispose sa hugaw nga nakolekta (The purpose of this project is to provide an effective way to manage the waste coming from the septic tanks and ensure proper dislodging, transportation, treatment, and disposal of the collected waste),” she said.
DCWD will schedule the dislodging of septic tanks of DCWD customers. Non-DCWD customers may also avail of this service. However, they will have to file a request to the DCWD subject to the availability of schedule.
Dislodging operation is from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Duhaylungsod said that the DCWD will prepare a pre-scheduled route plan on a monthly basis, and will also notify the scheduled households at least a month before the dislodging to ensure that a representative of the household is present.
Homeowners with their septic tanks or access holes located inside the house are urged to have a septic tank outside or an accessible access hole.
DCWD customers with residential collection will have to pay a sanitation fee of P3.45 per cubic meter of water consumed. A price cap is set at P5,971.59 to be paid aggregately within five years.
