The newly created Davao City Office for the Culture and the Arts (OCA) launched its pilot radio program, Kwentura: Kasaysayan ug Buhat, on June 12, 2025.
Airing every Thursday from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m., Kwentura tackles topics on arts, culture and the Dabawenyo identity.
OCA Head Oscar Casaysay told Madayaw that the program aims to deepen the roots of Davao culture by providing historical context and introducing it to the youth.
“Hisgutan dinhi ang kultura, sining ug kasaysayan. Mao ni ang gina-ingon nga identity sa Davao City. Unsa ba gyud or kinsa ba gyud ang Dabawenyo (This program will tackle culture, arts, and history. These aspects form part of the Dabawenyo identity. But who really are the Dabawenyos?),” Casaysay said.
He added that Davao City Mayor Sebastian “Baste” Duterte often emphasizes that despite challenges, Davao City has remained strong and resilient.
“Nganong nahimong resilient siya, mao to dili kasabot ang mga bag-o nga generation, mao na ang aspeto nga atong hisgutan (How did we become resilient? That is one of the things that the youth cannot easily understand, so that is the aspect we will talk about),” Casaysay said.
Casaysay noted that such programs are part of their mandate as an office dedicated to culture and the arts.
He also shared that their office was created through an ordinance—making it the first of its kind, not only in Mindanao, but the entire country as a whole.
He encouraged Dabawenyos to tune in to the program every Thursday over the Davao City Disaster Radio. CIO
