The Davao City Library and Information Center (DCLIC) has recorded a high number of visitors, a total 124,826 clients, from January to April this year.

Genevieve Tagudin, Children’s Librarian of DCLIC, in an interview over city-owned Davao City Disaster Radio, said that in addition to high turnout of visitors, the guided tours in the facility have increased, with 33 scheduled tours, attended by 1,904 individuals, including visitors from outside Davao City.

“Even outside Davao City [nagpuyo] naga-tour diri sa atoang libtary kay nindot gyod daw atoang facility ug maka ingon pa [sila] nga dili tanan nga public library diri sa Pilipinas kay gwapo. Guided tour lang na siya walay labot tong regular gyod nga ga-visit lang gyod (Even those who live outside Davao City tour our library because they say that our facility is impressive. Not all public libraries in the Philippines are designed like this),” she said.

She said the library also recorded more than 4,000 new members from January to April. The library also received 4,204 book donations and 250 magazines which were distributed to barangay reading centers across the city.

“Hopefully po mudaghan pa atong donation ug unta naa pa’y mu-donate nga board games. Although naa naman mi gi-allot nga budget for that, pero mas maayo pod nga mu-donate para ma-share pod nato sa atoang district [libraries] (Hopefully, we receive more donations, including board games. Although we have an allocated budget, additional donations would allow us to share resources with our district libraries),” she said.

She said that the DCLIC is open Monday to Friday from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., but will extend operations to weekends during Duaw Davao.

She said the library remains committed to promoting literacy and ensuring accessible learning resources to Dabawenyos as it continues to offer services including internet access and book borrowing.

The DCLIC welcomed 358,000 visitors in 2024, while 301,000 clients accessed its services in 2023.

Dabawenyos interested in visiting can find the library at 203 C., Bangoy Street, Barangay. 34-D, Poblacion District, Davao City. For inquiries, contact (082) 285-5599. CIO
