In line with the month-long Flores de Mayo, the Davao City Library and Information Center (DCLIC) has been engaging children in bible storytelling sessions by visiting barangays across the city.
Genevieve Tagudin, Children’s Librarian of DCLIC, said that since last month they visited various barangays encouraging children to explore the mobile library’s collection and engaging them with bible storytelling.
She said they started this initiative for the summer season, to ensure that young learners have opportunities to read and interact with books after their religious activities.
Among the barangays that have already benefitted from the initiative are Wines, Gumalang, Malagos, Carmen, Cadalian, and Tawan-Tawan. Next week, the team is set to visit Calinan.
She said that starting June 16, the mobile library will resume bringing books and holding storytelling sessions in schools and barangays, including remote areas like Malabog, Marilog, and Paquibato districts.
“Even sa mga remote nga areas naa ta’y mga schedule kung kaya pa sudlan sa atong mobile bus atoang sudlan para madala nato ang atoang mga libro, mapabasa sa mga bata, ug makahatag ta og services sa ilaha (We also have schedules even in remote areas so that we can bring our books to them, have them read our books, and provide our essential services to them),” she said.
She also said that their team works closely with the Department of Education, setting a scheduled visit to 93 schools across the city.
The DCLIC also continues holding educational activities like reading sessions, book donations, writing workshops, and exhibits of murals and artworks created by local artists. Other activities conducted include library etiquette orientation, book character parade, and puzzle challenge.
Tagudin said that this month, the library will host a “Palaro ng Lahi” and “Online Kwentuhan” as part of National Heritage Month, along with a museum tour.
She said that barangays that wish to bring the mobile library can request a schedule thru their email address (dcl@davaocity.gov.ph) or visit them personally at 203 C., Bangoy Street, Barangay 34-D, Poblacion District, Davao City. For inquiries, Dabawenyos may call (082) 285-5599. CIO
