The Davao City Council on Tuesday passed on second reading the ordinance for the establishment of the Davao City Public Internet Center on Tuesday.

The proposed Public Internet Center is a two-storey establishment equipped with 60 computer units on the second floor, while six computer units will be installed on the ground floor to cater to persons with disability.

Councilor Bonz Andre Militar, Chairperson of the Committee on Information Technology, said the Public Internet Center is complementary to the free internet and computer-use services offered by the Davao City Library and Information Center (DCLIC).

“Tanan taga-Davao pwede mo-avail pero kailangan sila mu-register sa City Library, P100 for the whole year pero unlimited na sila makagamit sa atoang Public Internet Center (Dabawenyos may have free unlimited access of the Public Internet Center, but they have to register at the Davao City Library and Information Center for one-year membership amounting to P100),” he said.

“Pwede pud sila mugamit og WIFI sa gawas since WIFI zone ang gawas sa atoang Public Internet Center (Since the surrounding area of the Public Internet Center, Dabawenyos may also utilize the connection outside the building),” Militar added.

Militar also said that as soon as the ordinance for the Public Internet Center is passed on its third and final reading, the budget for the construction of the facility will then be included in this year’s supplementary budget. CIO
