In celebration of the Earth Day, the City Environmental and Natural Resources (CENRO) is set to spearhead a tree planting activity in Barangay Tamugan on Friday, April 25.
Chris Asibal, CENRO’s Development Management Officer, told the City Information Office that the event is a key component of Davao City’s efforts to enhance urban forestry and mitigate the effects of climate change.
He said they started to conduct the tree planting activity to celebrate Earth Day after the pandemic. This year, the initiative will involve planting of approximately 3,500 seedlings.
The activity is scheduled to start at 6 a.m. and is expected to see the participation of 300 city government representatives.
Asibal also said that the activity will provide the participants with an opportunity to learn sustainable practices and understand their role to combat environmental challenges.
He said that in addition to the tree planting endeavor, the office has been involved in planting mangroves along the coastlines of Talomo District.
From January to February this year, more than 5,000 mangroves were planted, reinforcing the city’s commitment to protect its natural coastal ecosystem. CIO
