The City Veterinarian’s Office (CVO) warned of dangers that animals face amid the high heat index being experienced today.

Davao City Veterinarian Dr. Corazon Sepulveda told Madayaw Davao on Tuesday that 41 degrees Celsius is deadly for dogs.

“They need to drink water, even dogs they also experience heat stroke yung minsan nakatali sa labas ng bahay. At 41 degrees centigrade nagkakaroon na po sila ng bleeding sa loob, mahirap na kasi silang iligtas kung ganyan so give them water (They need to drink water, even dogs they also experience heat stroke, often those that are tied outside the house. At 41 degrees centigrade they are prone to internal bleeding, it will be hard to save them in that state, so give them water),” Sepulveda said.

Sepulveda said that responsible pet ownership continues to be the key to ensuring safe and healthy pets.

In line with this, their office continues to provide free rabies vaccination which pet owners may avail of for their animals.

The office also continues to provide castration and information and education campaigns.

Sepulveda said that during summer, most animals go out and become more mobile because like other animals, they look for cooler places.

Sepulveda added that because of this expected behavior dogs should be vaccinated and should also be castrated for population control.
