With the full operation of the surface water as an added source of water for the Davao City Water District (DCWD), Davao City saw a remarkable increase in supply and service connections in 2024.

In 2024, DCWD recorded a 111.20 percent increase in new service connections from 10,342 recorded in 2023 to 21,851.

By the end of 2024, the city had a total of 263, 506 service connections, which is higher compared to the 247,980 service connections in 2023, and 243, 873 in 2022.

DCWD Spokesperson Jovana Cresta Duhaylungsod told Madayaw on Friday that Davao City enjoys a very abundant water supply.

“Ang atong production capacity or ang pwede nato i-distribute na water is naa sa 710,000 cubic meters or 710 million liters of waters per day, 55 percent of which ang atong ginagamit. Meaning naa pa ta’y 45 percent na ma-consider nato na surplus that we can use kung naa ta’y downtime sa atong sources (Our production capacity, or the amount of water we can distribute is at 710,000 cubic meters or 710 million liters of water per day, we only use 55 percent of that. Meaning we still have a 45 percent surplus that we can use if there is downtime in our sources),” Duhaylungsod said.

Out of the 710 million liters, 368 million liters are from ground water, while 342 million liters are from surface sources.
Duhaylungsod said that they anchored their expansion plan on Davao City’s development plan.

“Naka-anchor ang amoang expansion plan sa development sa next 20 years residential, commercial, and industrial development sa siyudad. Mag-base napud mi puhon kung asa daghan ang population and kadtong mga development (We anchor our expansion plan on it for development in the next 20 years for residential, commercial, and industrial [areas]. We consider in the near future highly populated areas and areas with developments),” she said.

As to water quality, Duhaylungsod said that as a water service provider they value quality control to provide safe drinking water to Dabawenyos.

“Very strict ang atong adherence sa water safety plan. In fact, regular ang atong water quality control monitoring, naga-check gyud ta daily sa strategic location sa atong distribution network up to sa mga gripo sa customer (We are very strict in our adherence to the water safety plan. In fact, we conduct regular water quality control monitoring. We check daily at the strategic locations of the distribution network up to the customers tap),” she said.

“We have a state of the art water quality laboratory na ISO-certified, meaning at par sa international standard ang ilahang mga protocols (We have a state of the art water quality laboratory that is ISO-Certified, meaning it is at par with international standards in terms of protocol),” she added.

She also guaranteed that the DCWD water is drinkable because they adhere to the Philippine National Standards for Drinking Water.

“Mao na ang atong bibliya nga ginasubay sa atong monitoring and testing to make sure that drinkable gyud ang quality sa tubig nga gina-distribute (That is the bible that we follow in our monitoring and testing to make sure that the water distributed is of good quality and drinkable ),” she said. CIO
