The Department of Health (DOH), in partnership with the Davao City Health Office (CHO) and the Philippine Obstetrical and Gynecological Society-Southern Mindanao (POGS-SM) on March 10 held a forum on safe motherhood for pregnant women in time for the celebration of the 21st National Buntis Day.

The activity was intended to raise awareness on safe motherhood for pregnant women through lectures and open forums where pregnant women get to ask questions related to their pregnancy and ensure their safety as well as their baby’s.

“We’re raising awareness to all the expectant mothers na mabigyan sila ng care and safety in their pregnancy journey (We are raising awareness to all the expectant mothers to provide them with the care they needed and ensure a safe pregnancy journey),” Marie Jean Aranda, President of POGS-SM, said in an interview.

At least 300 pregnant women participated in the event which also offered free ultrasound, and other services.

In Davao City, the CHO, through its Safe Motherhood Program, also continues to offer free prenatal services to pregnant women in every health center and barangay health station in the city.

Free supplements like ferrous and folic acid, and calcium tablets are also provided to pregnant women.

The Safe Motherhood Program of the CHO also offers free Tetanus and Diphtheria vaccine, laboratory screening, and Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) test.

Pregnant women in the city are urged to have prenatal and post-natal check ups, as well as to reach out to health professionals to ensure a safe pregnancy. CIO
